About Kevin Weare - Leadership Development Specialist

Leadership is something Kevin Weare has experienced, practised and developed throughout his career — not simply studied.

A graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and a former commissioned officer, Kevin learned early what effective leadership looks like when people are expected to lead, make decisions, take responsibility and bring others with them. In the military, leadership development is not something that can simply be left until someone is ready. People are prepared for leadership because the consequences of getting it wrong can be significant.

Kevin has since taken that experience into the corporate world, working across government, telecommunications, logistics, IT and the private sector, giving him a broad understanding of the very different environments in which managers and leaders are expected to perform.

He has seen the contrast first-hand. While the military has a strong emphasis on preparing people for leadership before placing them in demanding roles, many organisations promote technically capable people into management and then expect them to learn how to lead while doing the job.

That is one of the reasons Kevin is passionate about practical leadership development.

With two Master’s degrees in Leadership and Management and doctoral research focused on innovative approaches to accelerating leadership development, he combines academic thinking with practical experience. His approach is deliberately straightforward: leadership development should make sense, relate to the challenges people actually face and give leaders something they can use when they return to work.

Today, that challenge is becoming even more important as AI changes the workplace and the role of the leader. As technology takes on more tasks and decisions, leadership is not becoming less important — it is changing. Leaders will increasingly need to know how to develop people, build trust, make good decisions, navigate uncertainty and understand where human judgement matters most.
